The law firm Smith Knudsen was founded in 1975 by the late Søren Smith Knudsen, Attorney, in Struer, the town of the world-famous Bang & Olufsen A/S. Søren Smith Knudsen was a very dynamic and outgoing person, who soon acquired a good reputation and a large and loyal clientele, and could move the firm from its first modest surroundings to more suitable offices.

One of his first legal employees was Bent Aagaard, Attorney, who was employed in 1978. In 1981 Mr. Aagaard bought an existing law firm in Struer which he ran until the two firms merged in 1996. Kristian Dalsgaard, Attorney, joined Smith Knudsen in 1986, and became a partner in the firm in 1987, the same year as Karsten Hjorth Larsen, Attorney, was employed and the firm moved to its present premises.

With a large and growing clientele the need arose to open an office in Holstebro in September 1990. In 1995 Karsten Hjorth Larsen became a partner and in 1996 the above-mentioned merger between the two firms Advokatfirmaet Smith Knudsen and Advokatfirmaet Bent Aagaard took place, whereby the firm got the size and competence necessary to offer the service and quality required.

Over the years Smith Knudsen Advokatfirma has educated a number of attorneys, and by employing vacation trainees and law students the firm ensures a natural intake of qualified new lawyers. Since the merger the field has witnessed a growth which has made it necessary to increase the legal staff. At the end of 2000 it was thus necessary to add 350 m² to the Holstebro offices, which now occupy two storeys of the office building on Store Torv 6, Holstebro.
The firm now has 8 lawyers of whom six are attorneys holding practicing certificates and two are junior attorneys. In total the firm employs 20 persons.
